Bren Talvane is a once pacifistic farmer from the once peaceful farming town of Mida-Li. His land was attacked by savage orcs from the Northern Wastes. All his crops were burnt, his town was ravaged and most of his fellow townsfolk were brutally slain. Wanting revenge, he and a fellow townsman brutally ambushed two riders in broad daylight. Since Mida-Li falls under Imperial jurisdiction, the law states that a man cannot kill unless its out of self defense, so now he is on the run. At the same time he is also plotting a rebellion against the conquering hordes before more of the land falls to ruin. Throughout his journey he has encountered mystical wood elves, who throughout the land of men are said to not exist. The wood elves shared with him their wisdom and told him how for centuries they have been at war with the dark elves from Tel' Dir. As Bren set off from the Elven Kingdom of Nya, he noticed dark figures approaching from the north.....the Orc hordes! ((i gotta leave here in a few minutes. i will finish this upon my return.)) ((Awesome backstory Bren! As you will find, Wood Elves are quite common and accepted here. Amtgardia is a wonderful place, a world between worlds, as it were. Methinks in your journies you have actually stepped into Amtgardia from your own home realm. I know of many who are like yourself, myself among them. I am from Ancient Japan, yet during my run from a rival daimyo I fell into a marsh and was transported here. Planswalking is a very common occurance in Amtgardia. I really need to step up on that Gazeteer...))

((many thanks for your appreciation. we used to act out a story that took place in ancient Japan. good stuff. but anyways, back to my epic tale, which i seem to have excluded my buddy "Wolf" from, but bear in mind he was there every step of the way. A hero is only as good as the men who fight beside him.))
Bren noticed a string of lights off in the distance, thats when an Elven archer informed him that whatever it was, it wasnt men, and they were headed straight for the forest kingdom of Nya. It wasnt many, just an orc scouting party, consisting of roughly 100 orc soldiers and about 10 orc commanders. They had human captives with them. A plan was divised to stop the orcs from advancing any further and to rescue the human captives, this plan would involve a battle, of course. 300 Elven warriors including archers and mages met the orc horde in the nearby plains. For a little over an hour they fought, with Bren, who had never seen battle before but fought as bravely as any veteren warrior, tearing through the enemies with great vim. What came as an even greater surprise to all is that Dark Elves from Tel' Dir had joined in towards the battles end. After the battle a council was held. It was decided that a great alliance would be forged. They would call themselves The Returners, and they would return their lands to the way they once were. That night, the elves forged a great sword for Bren, a sword embued with the blessings of the Wood Elves. Bren decided to seek an audience with the Emperor himself. So he and a small party ventured on towards the Imperial City of Gariland. Before Bren even got to the gate a small Imperial force surrounded them. Bren was arrested for 2 counts of murder. For 4 days he stayed locked in a prison cell under Fort Moonmoth. On the fourth day, he was pardoned by the Emperor, who agreed to join him in arms against the Orc hordes. The Emperor gave Bren the best of the best forces he had to offer, The Knights of Gariland. Together, they would bring about a change to the world.
With war looming on the horizon, its only a matter of days before a great battle ensues, one that will change the course of history. the story is still being written, the battle is still being fought. One day parents will tell great tales of Bren Talvane to their children, the story of a farmer who took up arms to bring peace and freedom back to the world, to which the children will wonder if it was real or just another story.
((note: this isnt the entire backstory, but just major events in my characters world.))
