After having returned from the cleansing of the damn dog Vlad went to the inn and got a room for the night to rest. When he had closed and barred the door, drawn the shutter and listened until he was confident that no one around had any interest in bothering him, Vlad reached into his pouch and took hold of the stone the old woman had given him. It was strange, he remembered seeing it only once for a brief moment in the private study of Rurik. He had hidden it as soon as he realized that Vlad was there in the door way.
The surface was perfect, not a divot or scratch on it, and unlike most stone it was warm to the touch, a welcomed feeling for Vlad since his blood had stopped flowing and his skin had grown cold...
Vlad knew that thee had to be something special about this stone, Rurik, at the time at least, was a land owner and wanted for nothijg , he would not have hidden this stone just because of shear monetary value.
With the cols nights approaching Vlad could feel the chill in the air of the duchy and moved to the fire place to start a fire and warm up a bit. As the fire grew he could feel the stone that he placed back into its pouch getting warmer...he took it out to find that it was indeed emitting heat as if a fire were inside of it.
After a few minutes he couldn't hold it any longer and placed in down hoping that the heat wouldn't catch the wooden floor on fire. Vlad sat thee next to the bed in front of the fire glaring into the stone until he drifted to sleep wondering what it was that sat in front of him.
Sun light illuminated the room, diffused by the shade Vlad had drawn the night before. The fire had dissipated to coals and the chill had one again filled the room. Vlad quickly regained his bearings, though dreary from sleep. He saw the stone and placed his had over it, strangely it was still warm but no longer producing heat as it had. Vlad knew that he had to see counsel to find out the origin and purpose of the stone, but who...
Reaching down and picking up the stone what he saw under it startled him a bit, it was an emblem of some kind, a seal perhaps burned into the floor instead of a solid burn shaped like the stone. "Well another day in paradise!" Vlad thought as he smirked. He decided that he couldn't leave the image just lying there so he cut out the surface wood and took it with him as a vacated the room and the inn, dropping a couple of gold pieces to the inn keep to repair the floor. Once on the street he made up his mind, he was off to see the druid...
